Ašun Me | From Stories to Action: Roma Youth Driving Policy Change Across Europe

Following the successful completion of its initial research and cooperation phase, the Ašun Me project is now entering a decisive stage, where Roma youth are moving from participation to active engagement in policy dialogue and advocacy. Building on the Transnational Mapping Report and a series of Cooperation Workshops delivered across partner countries, the project has laid a strong foundation for empowering young Roma through storytelling, dialogue, and civic engagement. These activities brought together Roma youth and youth workers to explore shared challenges, strengthen trust, and develop the skills needed to engage with decision-making processes.

Equipping Youth Through Learning and Creativity

At the same time, project partners are finalising the blended Training Programme and Artistic Toolkit for Roma Youth. These resources combine civic education, advocacy, political participation and documentary filmmaking, using a non-formal learning approach supported by practical exercises and digital tools. Together, they aim to equip young Roma with the skills and confidence to express their perspectives and engage in real-life advocacy.

Turning Voices into Action

The project is now progressing into its implementation phase, where young Roma will take on the role of Policy Ambassadors. Through a series of digital roundtables, participants will engage directly with policymakers, civil society organisations, and key stakeholders to discuss the realities faced by Roma communities and contribute to shaping more inclusive policies. These roundtables provide a structured space for dialogue and collaboration, enabling participants to share lived experiences, identify gaps in current measures, and propose concrete recommendations for change at both national and European levels.

A European Partnership with Local Impact

Insights gathered from these activities will feed into a Digital Policy Booklet, capturing key challenges, recommendations, and solutions identified by young Roma. In parallel, at least 18 policy proposals will be developed and submitted to National Roma Integration Strategies (NRIS), ensuring that youth voices are embedded within formal policy processes.

From Dialogue to Policy Impact

By combining participatory arts, non-formal education, and policy engagement, Ašun Me continues to empower Roma youth as active contributors to democratic life. The project demonstrates how creative expression, particularly documentary filmmaking, can act as a powerful tool for advocacy, visibility, and systemic change
