The aim of the ‘Box of our Memories – Adult Education Caring for Memory Loss’ (BooM) project is to empower seniors who deal with dementia by improving the necessary knowledge, skills and competences of informal carers and family members, volunteers and other relevant educational staff working in museums and cultural institutions. In doing so, the Box of Memories partnership will positively impact a large number of senior EU citizens by engaging them in reminiscence-based therapy that has proven to be beneficial for their wellbeing.
Toward these goals, this innovative project will develop an online platform and app that will contain personalised resources, pieces and information of our senior citizens’ life story and will also train adult educators, volunteers, carers, museum professionals and family members on using those resources and engaging seniors in activities that improve their wellbeing.
The BooM project results:
- A BooM Methodology Handbook in ebook format which will provide an overview of the main theories and practices of reminiscence-based therapies, as well as best practices from across the EU regarding inclusive activities for seniors. This Handbook will support adult educators, family members and professionals in relevant fields (care facilities, museums and archives) towards implementing the reminiscence-based approaches that BooM is proposing
- An innovative, formal training programme for adult educators in order to give participants working with memory and memory loss from various sectors the opportunity to upskill, share competences and be trained on the use of the Box of our Memories app towards engaging seniors in activities that improve their wellbeing
- An online non formal toolkit for carers, family members, volunteers that will support them towards implementing reminiscence-based and inclusive activities with seniors
